New Century Transportation recently received a Greater Philadelphia/Delaware Valley Human Resource Department of the Year Award for 2006. The award — which recognizes human resources departments that have demonstrated service excellence within their organizations — was presented to Carla English, New Century’s vice president of administration, and Pat Morozin, the company’s director of human resources, during a formal awards dinner held recently at Philadelphia’s Sheraton Society Hill Hotel.

“This recognition is affirmation that the specific efforts of our human resources department are helping to keep our company running at its full potential,” says Jim Molinari, president of Westampton, N.J.-based New Century. “There’s no doubt that our HR function is an integral part of our ongoing success.”

The New Century human resource department plays a key role in employee relations issues, working directly with department managers and other associates. The department has developed and adopted numerous policies and procedures, including a non-driver recruiting process, open status tracking, new hire orientation, performance review procedure, part-time policy, dress code and break policies, nonexempt employee attendance, and a leave of absence policy.

With more than 1,000 employees, New Century recently expanded its human resources department – which is headed by Morozin – to four staff members.
