Boyd Bros. driver Nathaniel Blue, who has been driving with the Clayton, Ala.-based company for nearly 30 years, recently achieved four million consecutive safe miles, with no accidents, negative incidents or a ticket.

“I know that when Blue is assigned a load, he will get it there on time and safely,” says Kevin Spivey, Blue’s dispatcher. “He has a strong work ethic, a pure sense of family and the winning attitude which places him head and shoulders above the rest.”

In honor of Blue’s achievement, Boyd Bros. will be holding a formal celebration in his honor. Alabama Gov. Bob Riley, numerous individuals among the transportation industry, Department of Transportation officials, customers, vendors and other guests will be invited to join Boyd Bros. and Blue’s family to recognize his achievement. Festivities are planned for Feb. 2 at the company’s facility in Birmingham, Ala.

“The company is honored to have such a conscientiously safe and determined driver-employee on board with us,” says Chris Cooper, Boyd Bros. general manager and third-generation transportation employee. “We value him as a driver, and even more so as a member of the Boyd Bros. family.”

Blue, who has spent his entire driving career at Boyd Bros., says he likes the challenge of traveling around the country and enjoys meeting new and different people. “I have the benefit of learning how to communicate with a variety of people that I encounter,” Blue says. “I’m very blessed to have a job that I love.” His goal is to reach five million safe miles before retiring to spend more time with his wife of 29 years, Amanda. They have five children and three grandchildren.

When asked what advice he has for new drivers, Blue says “Be courteous and always aware of the traffic around you, never lose focus or take your eye off the road for even a second, and keep a clear mind.”
