Southern Refrigerated Transport reportedly is adding 250 employees this month. The Texarkana, Ark.-based company has acquired some of the assets of Covenant Transport, according to the Associated Press; most of the new employees will be drivers who move their base of operations to Texarkana but live elsewhere. The company provides long-haul truckload transportation in 48 states and Canada.

Company officials say about 45 to 50 of the new jobs should be created in Texarkana, including those in marketing, customer service, dispatch, maintenance, accounting, human resources and risk management. About 200 new trucks will be added to the company fleet, while the Covenant fleet will operate as a separate division. President Tony Smith said the equipment was bought at book value, but he declined to give a sale price.
