The national average retail price of a gallon of diesel plunged 7 cents for the week ending Tuesday, Jan. 16, to $2.463. The national average was just .014 cents more than the same week last year. The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday delayed the week’s report, normally due out Monday, by one day.

Diesel buyers on the East Coast paid $2.437, more than a nickel less than they paid a year ago and 8 cents less than a week ago, the U.S. Department of Energy reported. Prices were highest on the West Coast at $2.749 per gallon, and lowest in the Gulf Coast at $2.391.
