Roadway driver Bobby Elrod has achieved the elite status of driving 4 million miles without a preventable accident. Elrod, 66, has been with Roadway for 33 years – 13 years at the Roadway facility in Nashville, Tenn., and 20 years in Ringgold, Ga. He presently works out of the Roadway facility in Ringgold and is a member of Teamster’s Local 528.

“We are all proud of Bobby’s outstanding achievement,” says Terry Gilbert, president of Akron, Ohio-based Roadway. “He exemplifies the engagement and pride essential to make our highways safe while meeting our customers’ needs. He is truly a leader in the industry.”

Elrod was recognized for his achievement at a safety luncheon on Monday, Jan. 29. He received various awards honoring his dedication to safety. “Bobby’s commitment to safety is evident by this great accomplishment,” says Jackie Carter, service center manager for the Roadway facility in Ringgold. “He embraces our priority of safety by going the extra mile to assure the safety of other drivers and his shipments while on the road every day. We congratulate Bobby and look forward to his next million safe miles.”

Elrod always has been actively involved in training and mentoring new Roadway employees. He was the first Smith System safety training instructor at the Roadway facility in Nashville. He also has participated in truck driving championships, placing third in the straight truck category at the 2002 Tennessee state driving competition.
