Heil Environmental has expanded the territory covered by its longtime distributor Cherokee Truck Equipment to include most of the state of Georgia. Cherokee has been a distributor of Heil refuse collection vehicles since 1981, serving southeast Tennessee and northwest Georgia. It now has assumed the territory formerly managed by Heil South, which recently was sold and will no longer handle refuse equipment.

Cherokee offers municipal, national and independent refuse haulers a complete line of Heil front loader, rear loader, recycling and automated refuse collection vehicles, as well as replacement parts from Parts Central, a Heil company, and hydraulic cart lifters from Bayne Premium Lift Systems. The company also sells and services a variety of other truck bodies and equipment, including cranes.

Cherokee is based in Chattanooga, Tenn., and is in the process of establishing a full sales and service facility in Georgia. Owner and President Jim O’Brien purchased Cherokee in June 2005.

“Jim has done an outstanding job of leveraging the strengths of this long-standing distributorship and putting in place the strategies and infrastructure necessary to grow the business well into the future,” says David Baratti, Heil’s vice president of sales and marketing. “We are pleased to be able to provide our customers in Georgia with the professionalism and experience offered by Cherokee Truck Equipment.”

The Cherokee team is looking forward to serving haulers in its expanded territory, O’Brien says. “We will work to develop long-term partnerships with our customers throughout southeast Tennessee and Georgia to help make them more successful,” he says. “Our new customers in Georgia will see a strong commitment to service, plus the same reliable, productive Heil refuse collection vehicles they have come to count on.”
