Truckload Carriers Association scholarship applications now are available for distribution to truckload company employees and independent contractors. Any junior or senior attending an accredited four-year college or university and who is affiliated with a trucking company is encouraged to apply.
To obtain an application, go to www.truckload.org and click on the “scholarship” button on the left side of the homepage, or contact Nancy O’Liddy at 703-838-1950. Applicants can fill out the form online, or download it; the deadline for receipt of applications is Friday, May 25. All forms must be typed. If transcripts are not yet ready to enclose with an application, they can be sent later when they become available.
There are 25 scholarships available, 21 in the amount of $2,000, along with four named scholarships: Mac McCormick Memorial Scholarship, $6,000; Thomas Welby Memorial Scholarship, $3,000; Kai Norris Memorial Scholarship, $3,000; and Truck Writers of North America, $2,500.
Last year, the TCA Scholarship Fund awarded nearly $40,000 in scholarships to individuals who showed financial need, earned a GPA of 3.3 or better, had an excellent scholastic record, maintained full-time status and were individuals of high character and integrity. Students pursuing transportation or business degrees will be given special consideration. Scholarships are awarded without regard to sex, race, color, national origin or religion.
