Jim Kuczynski recently received Beverage Distributors Co.’s first 25-year Safe Driver Award at an awards ceremony held on March 24. Kuczynski is the first driver in BDC’s history to receive this milestone award. BDC and MHC Truck Leasing – Denver jointly presented the award to Kuczynski.

In order to meet the criteria of the award, Kuczynski had to not have had a preventable accident. John Slater, transportation manager, says Kuczynski — who has been employed with BDC since 1965 — is an asset to the company. “His experience is what sets him apart,” Slater says. “Jim is able to recognize hazards due to years of experience, and he is able to navigate those hazards and make it through each and every day safely.”

The awards ceremony program has been in existence since the early 1980s. In addition to the Safe Driver Award, BDC also gives out Driver of the Month and Driver of the Year awards. Slater says part of the reason BDC developed the awards program was to build safety awareness. “Our safety events encourage and recognize safe driving,” he says. “Not only are they fun events, but these events also help us with driver retention. It is an honor for our employees to be recognized, in front of company leadership, and also by their peers.”

MHC Truck Leasing – Denver has been participating in the awards ceremony since the late 1980s. They are BDC’s leasing partner, and provide maintenance and care for the 58 Kenworth trucks BDC runs. BDC, based in Aurora, Colo., has more than 500 employees, and is a member of the Charmer Sunbelt Network, which has more than 18 locations nationwide. MHC Truck Leasing – Denver is part of MHC’s network of heavy-duty and medium-duty truck dealers and leasing locations, with more than 60 locations in 10 states.
