Twinhead Corp. says its Durabook D13RY and D14RY ruggedized notebooks feature lightning-fast Intel Core Duo and Core 2 Duo processors, as well as optional TPM 1.2, a hardware-based security technology that meets the highest international requirements for data protection.

The Durabook D13RY and D14RY bring together Intel Centrino Duo mobile technology, Intel Pro/Wireless LAN 3945 ABG (802.11a/b/g), as well as Genuine Microsoft Windows XP (Professional and Home Editions). Both the Durabook D13RY and D14RY are Windows Vista Ready, and support DDRII 667 SDRAM. The Durabook D13RY is a mobile multimedia center with 13.3-inch WXGA TFT LCD screen, 1.3 mega pixel webcam and four 1-watt stereo speakers. The D14RY is built for the road warrior and includes a non-glare 14.1-inch XGA TFT LCD display.

Both new Durabooks offer a magnesium-alloy case that the company says is 20 times stronger than ABS plastic. Durabook cases have an anti-shock mounting design that helps protect the LCD screen and hard disk drive from damage and data loss, and a flexible HDD cable design that helps absorb shock from drops. An exclusive optical disk tray lock prevents unintentional tray eject from drop and vibration, according to Twinhead.

The Durabook’s spill-resistant design helps insulate the keyboard, touchpad and adjacent buttons, stopping spills from leaking into sensitive interior parts. Double protection smart battery circuitry helps prevent damage caused by current or voltage surges and overheating, while Twinhead’s Smart Battery Calibration helps fight the loss of battery capacity after repeated charge-discharge cycles.

The optional TPM (Trusted Platform Module) 1.2, the hardware-based security technology offered in the D13RY and D14RY, is an international standard created by the nonprofit Trusted Computing Group. The TPM technology provides the most secure environment for mobile data protection based on the security protection being built within the PC hardware itself, according to the company.
