Menlo Worldwide — a subsidiary of Con-way Inc. and a global provider of logistics, transportation management and supply-chain services — recently announced it has been named the 2006 Supplier of the Year by Maquet, the U.S. sales and service unit and a subsidiary of Getinge AB.

Maquet is a worldwide provider of medical technology and equipment for emergency rooms, operating rooms and intensive care units. The company’s U.S. business unit specializes in sales and service of critical care ventilators and cardiopulmonary perfusion systems and disposables for heart surgery.

“We have forged a great relationship with Maquet, both in the United States and in Europe, and it’s gratifying to be recognized for the value of our work together,” says Robert L. Bianco Jr., president of San Mateo, Calif.-based Menlo Worldwide. “It’s an honor to be the first logistics provider in Maquet’s history to receive this significant award.”

Menlo’s services for Maquet include import transportation from Menlo’s Netherlands operation, customs and clearance of goods at JFK Airport in New York; warehouse and parts distribution in Bridgewater, N.J.; cross-dock operations in Mt. Vernon, N.Y.; and final delivery to Maquet customers throughout North America.

“What differentiates Menlo from other suppliers is that we really do have a partnership with the company that focuses on improving supply-chain quality and lowering costs,” says Greg Schupp, director of operations for Maquet. “The solutions that we have implemented with Menlo have improved on-time delivery and reduced operating costs. We’ve only scratched the surface of our logistics improvement potential, and we expect to further improve our operations during the next 24 months.”

Maquet, headquartered in Bridgewater, based the award on the following criteria: operational quality, lead time and productivity consistency, service-level excellence and cost-effectiveness. A selection committee consisting of representatives from Maquet’s marketing, sales, operations, logistics and accounting groups performed the evaluation. More than 20 supplier nominations from different areas of the company were considered.
