National Carriers recently awarded one if its drivers a Panasonic 61-inch big-screen high-definition television as a payoff in the company’s latest referral contest, held Feb. 1 through March 31.

Ed Edens, of Daleville, Ala., was the lucky winner of the oversized TV. “I’m currently building a new house near San Antonio, and this will make a nice addition to the new home,” says Edens, who has been with the company for only three months and is currently signed on with National Carriers’ lease-purchase program.

Steve Zolner, recruiting director, believes the referral contest was a success. “Our usual referral program only rewards drivers if their referrals are actually hired,” Zolner says. “With these contests, drivers can still be rewarded for their efforts, even if the referral is not hired. It’s important that they know we appreciate them trying to help us recruit more drivers.”

The Liberal, Kan.-based company gained a 30 to 40 percent increase in referrals during the same amount of time with this contest, Zolner says.
