The deadline for applying for Truckload Carriers Association scholarships for carrier employees or independent contractors is Friday, May 25.

Juniors or seniors at accredited four-year colleges or universities who are affiliated with a trucking company may apply. Last year, the TCA awarded nearly $40,000 in scholarships to individuals who showed financial need, earned a grade point average of 3.3 or better, had an excellent scholastic record, maintained full-time status and were “individuals of high character and integrity,” the association said.

Students pursuing transportation and business degrees will be given special consideration in awarding scholarships.

Twenty-one scholarships are available for $2,000 each, plus an additional four named scholarships: the Mac McCormick Memorial Scholarship, $6,000; the Thomas Welby Memorial Scholarship, $3,000; the Kai Norris Memorial Scholarship, $3,000; and the Truck Writers of North America Scholarship, $2,500.

Scholarship applications are available on the TCA website at www.truckload.org or by calling Nancy O’Liddy at 703-838-1950. Applications may be completed online, or downloaded and mailed. If transcripts are not yet ready to enclose with an application, they may be sent separately as soon as they are available.
