SkyBitz, a satellite-based asset tracking and information management service provider, announced the appointment of Abdul H. Rana, Ph.D., to the management team as CTO.

An expert in engineering and product development, Rana comes to SkyBitz with more than 28 years of technical and business experience in satellite and cellular communications, information systems and data networks. Also at Arrowhead, he served in numerous management positions in the areas of operations, capture, program management, P&L, engineering and service management.

Rana’s appointment as CTO follows the company’s recent Series D funding round, which allowed the company to extend new product development, strengthen service delivery and expand into new markets and applications. In his new role, Rana will lead and provide strategic direction to expand the SkyBitz suite of products and services, as well as technical enhancements to its asset tracking system.

Earlier in his career, Rana held several leadership positions in engineering, product management and management consulting for wireless, satellite and Internet companies around the world, including VeriSign, GE, ORBCOMM, GTE and Paradigm4. He has also held technical and management positions at COMSAT Labs and ENSCO, Inc., in satellite communications and signal processing. Serving as technical editor of IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems for several years and with more than 30 accredited publications in professional journals, Rana is a noted contributor to industry journals (publications).
