Three carriers — Con-Way Freight, Decker Truck Line and CFI — recently announced that their drivers have been recognized with monthly achievement awards for various accomplishments.

Con-way Freight driver recognized in Michigan

Con-way Freight, a less-than-truckload carrier and subsidiary of Con-way Inc., has announced that Richard King, a driver out of Rockford, was named the Michigan Trucking Association’s Driver of the Month for January. King received the recognition at a recent awards banquet in Lansing.

The association selected King based on criteria including safety, customer relations, employer relations, acceptance of responsibility, care of equipment and work habits. His Con-way Freight service center manager nominated him for the award. Member companies may nominate just two drivers per year under the annual program.

“Con-way Freight drivers are our best ambassadors – known throughout the United States for their commitment to safety and courtesy to customers and the public,” says David S. McClimon, president of Ann Arbor, Mich.-based Con-way Freight. “The Michigan Trucking Association’s selection of Richard King for this highly competitive award shows that we select and train the best and brightest to represent our company on the road. We congratulate Richard on this significant accomplishment.”

King has been driving for Con-way Freight for 21 of his 39 years’ total driving experience. A mentor and leader in the Grand Rapids service center, King has completed five perfect-attendance years on the job – in 2001 and 2003 through 2006.
