Jevic Transportation Inc. on Friday, July 20, announced that its manager of safety, compliance and training, James J. Daulerio, was awarded the prestigious Safety Director of the Year award for 2007 by the New Jersey Motor Truck Association, in conjunction with the American Trucking Associations.
The NJMTA Safety Director Award is presented annually to the motor carrier safety professional whose job qualifications, achievements and ability to design and direct safety programs are deemed the most outstanding among all motor carriers. Any person at the policy-making level who is employed by a motor carrier of property for the full-time direction of its safety activities is eligible for the award.
“When you think of safety in the motor carrier industry, you think of Jevic,” says David H. Gorman, president and chief executive officer of Delanco, N.J.-based Jevic. “When you think of an individual whose passion is safety, you think Jim Daulerio. We are all proud of his accomplishments and his achievement.”
To win the award, the candidate must have overall authority for policy decisions in the promulgation, inauguration and administration of the carrier’s safety program; have day-to-day operational responsibility for safety oversight; and have devoted his/her career to the field of highway and/or industrial safety for a period of not less than 10 years.
Daulerio has been in the trucking industry since 1970 and has an accident-free record of 27 years as a professional driver. He joined Jevic in 1992 and drove over-the-road, regional and local delivery runs before joining the safety department in 1997 as a safety supervisor. Since then, he has held various positions, including manager of driver development. Daulerio also holds various positions with ATA and the National Truck Driver Championships.
