The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Smartway Transport Partnership has selected the Meritor Tire Inflation System by Pressure Systems International as the exclusive representative of tire inflation technology to be exhibited in its booth at the Great American Trucking Show, set for Aug. 23-25 in Dallas.

MTIS will be displayed along with other technologies that can assist commercial fleets in lowering fuel consumption and reducing emissions. Representatives from ArvinMeritor and Pressure Systems International will be available at Booth #16159 to explain the benefits of MTIS and how using the system can improve fuel economy by maintaining proper tire inflation at all times. Other benefits related to automatic tire inflation also can be discovered by visiting the Smartway booth during GATS.

According to the company, the MTIS by PSI – the most widely used automatic tire inflation system in the commercial vehicle industry – is a robust, simple design easily installed on any type of trailer, including van, liquid tank, logger, flat bed, chassis, livestock, platform, drop frame, dump, deep drop, doubles, dry bulk, reefer, auto transporter and military.

ThermAlert, an MTIS technology, is designed to detect increased wheel end temperatures and help alert drivers to stop for repairs before serious damage can occur. The company says this early warning helps reduce the potential risk, cost and downtime associated with wheel loss, wheel end failures and trailer fires.
