Career training scholarships available to the military community

In recognition of military appreciation month, the nonprofit Hire A Hero program is accepting applications to award 122 academic scholarships to the military community. These scholarships are available to active and transitioning military personnel, veterans, National Guard Members, Reservists and their spouses.

Lincoln Educational Services Corp., the title sponsor of the Hire a Hero, will be providing the training in an effort to give back to those who have served. Degree and diploma programs will be available in automotive technology including commercial diesel technology, health sciences, skilled trades, business, information technology and hospitality services.

Three types of scholarships are available to those who quality:

Hire A Hero Front Line scholarships

  • Eight scholarships awarded to U.S. Military Members serving overseas (OCONUS) fighting the War on Terror
  • One hundred percent of tuition covered for each recipient to complete associate of applied science Degrees in criminal justice or allied health
  • Courses will be completed online
  • Hire A Hero National Guard Scholarships

  • 54 scholarships awarded to U.S. National Guard members or spouses of National Guard members
  • Up to $10,000 given to each recipient to help cover tuition fees
  • Areas of study to choose from include automotive technology including commercial diesel technology, health sciences, skilled trades, business, information technology, criminal justice and hospitality services.
  • Hire A Hero Military Community Scholarships

  • 60 scholarships awarded to U.S. military, honorably discharged veterans and their spouses.
  • $2,000 given to each recipient to help cover tuition fees
  • Areas of study to choose from include automotive technology including commercial diesel technology, health sciences, skilled trades, business, information technology, criminal justice and hospitality services.
  • All American service members, veterans and spouses are encouraged to apply for the scholarships. The application process involves registering for free at the Hire a Hero website and uploading a written essay or short video. All applications are due on or before Friday, Aug. 17, and winners will be announced in late August.
