Shippers Transport Co., WSM-AM 650 and entertainer Jerry Reed are joining forces to help the Nashville Veteran Affairs Medical Center at the Wilson County Fair’s first charity event. The kickoff for the event is this weekend, and the drive to collect donations for the Veteran Affairs Medical Center will last from Friday, Aug. 17 through Saturday, Aug. 25.

Shippers Transport donated one tractor-trailer rig to collect and carry care packages for the patients. The care packages include shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes and other necessary commodities. The goal is to fill the rig with care packages and donations to be delivered.

The truck will be at the event’s kickoff at the Cracker Barrel in Lebanon, Tenn., on Friday, Aug. 17, and the truck will be featured at the Wilson County Fair nightly from 5 to 9 p.m. and all day on Saturday and Sunday to collect the donations. WSM-AM 650 will be broadcasting live, and Reed will be in attendance.

The Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn. is a facility that specializes in areas ranging from simple medical care to angioplasty and organ transplants. All of the hospital patients’ needs are supplied by donations of items and nongovernmental money.
