Florida’s Turnpike to offer open-road tolling

user-gravatar Headshot

Workers are converting SunPass-only lanes to open-road tolling at four major toll plazas on Florida’s Turnpike. The conversion project, which began in mid-August and is expected to be finished by winter, will allow SunPass customers to drive through the toll plazas at highway speeds. Cash and mixed-use lanes are unaffected.

The makeover, which eliminates concrete islands and installs new equipment, will occur on weekends and from 7:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. on weeknights. The plazas affected are Lantana in Palm Beach County, Cypress Creek in Broward County and Bird Road and Homestead in Miami-Dade.
