Menlo Worldwide — a global provider of logistics, transportation management and supply chain services and subsidiary of Con-way Inc. — announced today, Sept. 20, a major expansion of its Amsterdam-area operations with the opening of a new 70,000-square-foot facility at the AMB Douglassingel Distribution Center near Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport.

The multiclient center becomes the company’s new European headquarters, and is Menlo’s fourth-largest of eight distribution and logistics centers in Europe serving customers in the high-tech industry as well as other markets. With a current work force of more than 50 employees, the company expects local employment to grow as operations expand and new business is secured. The new facility replaces a previous operation at Koolhovenlaan in the same area of Schiphol-Rijk.

“As the center of an extensive network connecting the rest of Europe, Amsterdam is a crucial market for Menlo and our customers,” says Gert Askes, managing director of European operations for San Mateo, Calif.-based Menlo Worldwide. “The proximity of this new facility to the airport and customs is ideal, and allows us very fast turnaround times. It is also a state-of-the-art building, perfectly suited to support the requirements of our high-tech clientele. This positions us for growth as the market continues to seek capacity and expanded services for logistics and distribution management throughout the pan-European market.”

Menlo says primary services provided at its new facility include:

  • Bonded warehousing, inventory control and supply chain flow management;
  • Receiving, storage, pick and pack, shipping and customer service;
  • Product staging, fulfillment and transportation management; and
  • Just-in-time or emergency response delivery.
  • The AMB Douglassingel Distribution Center is located in the Schiphol-Rijk Industrial Park, part of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol’s distribution area with easy access to three major highways. The high-security site features closed-captioned television, access control, security cages for high-value goods and other modern features to ensure optimum product safety, Menlo says; the site is TAPA “A” certified for secure operations.

    The Douglassingel site is one of eight principal logistics operating centers for Menlo in Europe. The others are in Eersel and Rotterdam, the Netherlands; Hahn, Germany; Budapest, Hungary; and three locations in the United Kingdom, where Menlo performs warehousing and product staging for vendor-managed inventories. Menlo says all of its European operations offer a wide portfolio of logistics services for customers, with a focus on key industries of high-tech/consumer electronics, automotive, consumer goods and industrial products.
