The American Trucking Associations announced Monday, Sept. 24, that America’s Road Team Captain Steve Eckhoff, of Stover, Mo., will present lifesaving highway driving tips at the Old Tyme Apple Festival in Versailles, Mo., set for Oct. 5-6.

Eckhoff, a professional driver for Hogan Transports, will bring a tractor-trailer to the festival to demonstrate the blind spots found around a large commercial vehicle and invite visitors to climb into the cab of his truck to see what a driver can and cannot see. Eckhoff, who has driven more than two million accident-free miles, will give safe driving tips and talk about his experience on the road.

“Being an America’s Road Team Captain is an honor,” Eckhoff says. “I have the opportunity to travel around the country teaching people how to be safe on our highways and helping to save lives. It is a great feeling to be doing it so close to home at the Old Tyme Apple Festival and being able to discuss the essentiality and safety record of the industry.”

The ATA safety demonstration will be located in the parking lot at Gerbes, 305 W. Newton, in Versailles. All students are welcome to climb into the truck and talk to the America’s Road Team about highway safety and the trucking industry.

The America’s Road Team, sponsored by Volvo Trucks North America, is a national public outreach program led by a small group of professional truck drivers who share superior driving skills, remarkable safety records and a strong desire to spread the word about safety on the highway.
