Bay & Bay Transportation, a national transportation and logistics company, announced Tuesday, Sept. 25, that it has purchased D&T Trucking Co. of Little Canada, a northern suburb of St. Paul, Minn. The family-owned business has specialized in refrigerated and dry freight transportation since 1959. The acquisition, terms of which were not disclosed, includes D&T’s brokerage company, Virtual Transportation.

Sam Anderson, president of Rosemount, Minn.-based Bay & Bay, says the acquisition is an exciting opportunity to bring together the best practices of two family-owned businesses that have proven track records and similar values. “Both companies take great pride in running top-quality, safety-minded operations,” Anderson says. “Together, we’ll continue our tradition of strong customer relationships and increasing the earning potential for our drivers.”

Anderson says the foremost benefit of combining companies will be more freight on similar lanes and fewer empty backhauls. During the transition, Scott Stelman, Bay & Bay chief financial officer, will act as general manager of D&T. There are no immediate plans to make any significant changes to D&T Trucking, Anderson says.

D&T owner Bob Dolle Jr., 56, son of founder Robert Dolle Sr., will remain with D&T for the next year through the transition, and then retire. He has worked in the business since he was 19. “After 37 years in the transportation industry, I’m ready to pursue other interests,” Dolle says. “But I’ll do so knowing that, together, D&T and Bay & Bay can provide an even greater spectrum of top-quality services to our customers.”
