The associates of Averitt Express recently donated $388,000 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at the fourth annual Palm Dinner, held Sept. 18 in Nashville, Tenn. With this donation, Averitt Express completes its $1.5 million endowment to finance the hospital’s Leukemia and Lymphoma Clinic.

Country music entertainer Billy Dean was on hand, along with Averitt Express President and Chief Executive Officer Gary Sasser and other Averitt associates to make the check presentation. “It is an honor to support the kids and families of St. Jude,” says Sasser. “Our associates have always been compassionate, giving people, and they were thrilled with the opportunity to fund the St. Jude Leukemia and Lymphoma Clinic, knowing how many lives it would touch in a positive way.”

Averitt associates have generously supported St. Jude through their employee giving program, Averitt Cares, since 1990 and have contributed nearly $2 million to help children with cancer and other catastrophic childhood illnesses. In July 1997, Averitt Cares announced a $1.5 million endowment to fund the Leukemia and Lymphoma Clinic at St. Jude. Averitt Cares is 100 percent funded by voluntary contributions of associates.
