SiriComm today, Sept. 21, announced initiation of a network access agreement with DriverTech Fleet Management Systems. The agreement provides DriverTech with wireless bandwidth capacity for priority business data transmissions from its Truck-PC in-cab communication devices. Fleet customers also will have the ability to upgrade access for drivers to surf the Internet during off hours.

“This is our first significant venture into business data transmission services, one of three primary product segments we are pursuing,” says Mark Grannell, president and chief executive officer of Joplin, Mo.-based SiriComm. “With our network of over 480 Hot Spots as the backbone, we continue to develop our business plan that includes penetrating the driver segment, the fleet segment and the transportation service provider segment.”

DriverTech provides in-cab communication devices for the transportation industry. With this agreement in place, DriverTech says it will be able to begin providing new services being requested by its fleet customers for cost-effective transmission of larger data packets and general Internet access for drivers’ personal use. SiriComm and DriverTech expect to roll the service out to one fleet initially and add other fleet customers in the coming months.
