Cengage Learning, a provider of training and information materials, recently announced the expansion of its Professional Technician Training Series that now offers interactive, self-paced training in both the automotive and medium-/heavy-duty truck training areas.

In keeping with the modern technology seen in shops today, the courses are available in both CD-ROM and Web-based formats. Cengage Learning says these courses focus on engaging technicians and optimizing information retention through the use of true-to-life animations and interactivities. The series covers topics ranging from electricity and electronic systems to brakes and preventive maintenance, with each course containing the most up-to-date theory, application and diagnostic material, according to the company. In spring 2008, courses will be available for suspension and steering; heating, ventilation and air conditioning; and drivetrains.

The courses follow the competency guidelines as set forth by both the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation and Automotive Service Excellence. Each course contains end-of-section review questions, as well as a review at the end of the course, awarding a printable certificate of completion to each user who achieves a score of 80 percent or higher.

“This thought-provoking training tool is a great resource for technicians,” says Kristen Davis, director of professional automotive and trucking training solutions at Albany, N.Y.-based Delmar Cengage Learning. “Students have the ability to learn at a self-paced level, allowing individuals to review material as often as necessary and ensure the highest increases in skill level. This is a must-have tool for any technician or individual interested in a career in the automotive or medium-/heavy-duty trucking industries.”
