Colorado urges compliance with new chain regulations

user-gravatar Headshot

Colorado is asking for the industry’s help in complying with new chain laws in the state. The state saw its first snowstorm recently, and Interstate 70 was closed for several hours because trucks jackknifed on the highway.

As a result, the State Patrol issued a number of tickets ranging from $500 for drivers without chains, to $1,000 for those drivers whose trucks without chains caused the closure of a lane.

The State has expended almost $2.5 million, adding new chain-up sites and adding lighting and signage to existing areas, and urges truckers to use these spots for chaining and unchaining. For a fact sheet on the new chain laws, click here.
