Utility Trailer Manufacturing Co. — a manufacturer of dry freight vans, reefers, flatbeds and Tautliner curtainsided trailers — on Thursday, Nov. 8, introduced the 4000A flatbed. Featuring an aluminum/steel composite design, the Utility 4000A is both stronger and more durable than the 2000A flatbed while reducing tare weight by more than 400 pounds, the company says.
Utilizing the 2000A one-piece plasma-cut main beam webs and 80,000-lb. frame rating, the 4000A includes the increased strength of a newly designed 80,000-PSI high-tensile steel, hat-shaped main beam top flange, according to Utility. The 4000A features a Hendrickson narrow-hanger AANT 23k spread air-ride suspension, and the main beams are contoured at the rear to facilitate uniform axle loading. Utility says the 4000A was tested on its own real-world test track to ensure reliability.
“The 4000A flatbed raises the standard of strength and durability for a lightweight flatbed,” says Craig Bennett, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Utility Trailer Manufacturing Co., based in City of Industry, Calif. “With fuel costs and operating demands rising, this new model offers owner-operators and fleets a fuel-efficient and durable alternative to other lightweight flatbeds.”
