SARS Corp., a provider of remote asset management and telematics solutions, announced on Thursday, Dec. 6, a new fleet tracking service. SARS RoadTrac utilizes the integrated satellite/GPRS SureLinx satellite terminal from SkyWave Mobile Communications, a global provider of two-way satellite telematics products and services.

SARS commenced shipment of SureLinx units to North American SARS RoadTrac customers in the third quarter. SARS RoadTrac integrates with a broad range of hardware platforms and is designed to improve the safety, security and operational efficiencies of midsize road fleets.

“This solution combines data from GPRS and satellite networks to give customers a very low total cost of ownership while ensuring constant contact with an asset even when it’s out of GPRS range,” says Clayton Shelver, chief executive officer of Seattle-based SARS Corp. “Integration of SARS RoadTrac with SkyWave’s SureLinx dual-mode terminal enables us to deliver solutions for customers with minimal lead time.”

With SARS RoadTrac, customers monitor their vehicles on a customizable map-based interface and receive real-time business intelligence regarding the status and location of vehicles, the company says; SARS RoadTrac is accessed through a standard Web browser, allowing users to be in touch with their critical assets, anywhere, anytime.

The SARS RoadTrac service utilizes SkyWave’s SureLinx terminal that integrates satellite and GPRS for simplified networking and cost-efficient application integration, according to SkyWave; the discrete terminal features low power consumption and a rugged exterior, making it versatile enough to suit a wide range of applications requiring dependable coverage across urban and rural or remote locations.

“SARS Corp. is a premier provider of remote asset management and telematics solutions,” says Alain Nicolle, North American sales director for Ottawa, Canada-based SkyWave. “We are pleased to provide them with reliable, cost-effective satellite products and network services to enable a robust end-user solution. With the ubiquitous coverage provided by this solution, asset owners and end-users benefit from increased security and peace of mind regardless of where they travel.”
