USA Truck on Thursday, April 17, announced base revenue of $97.1 million for the first quarter ended March 31, an increase of 2.8 percent from $94.5 million for the same quarter of 2007. Net income decreased from $0.08 million for the quarter to a net loss of $1.9 million for the same quarter of 2008.

“This quarter was one of the most difficult operating environments that we have ever seen,” said Clifton R. Beckham, president and chief executive officer of the Van Buren, Ark.-based dry van truckload carrier. “It was characterized primarily by sluggish freight demand, industrywide tractor overcapacity and rising fuel prices, all of which adversely impacted our earnings.”
