Bendix Commercial Vehicles Systems will assemble cabs for Class 8 truck manufacturer Autocar’s Xpeditor refuse trucks, in a deal announced by the two companies Thursday, Oct. 2.

Bendix recently completed the first fully dressed cab module in a newly renovated 75,000-square-foot facility in Huntington, Ind., which will be dedicated to the Autocar business. The plant will be fully operational by the end of first quarter 2009, says Joe McAleese, Bendix chief executive officer.

Elyria, Ohio-based Bendix will assemble 1,000 parts from more than 140 suppliers in the cabs for the low-cab-forward refuse trucks. Bendix manufactures more than 100,000 commercial vehicle modules in Huntington annually. The company makes brake, safety and control systems for Class 8 and commercial bus manufacturers.

Hagerstown, Ind.-based Autocar focuses solely on severe-duty trucks.
