PeopleNet, a provider of intelligent onboard communications and fleet management solutions, announced that Boyd Bros. Transportation Inc., a flatbed truckload carrier headquartered in Clayton, Ala., has selected PeopleNet for its fleet of about 1,000 trucks.

Boyd Bros. has been serving construction, steel and other flatbed shippers since 1956. With facilities in Alabama, Mississippi, Ohio, North Carolina and Georgia, Boyd Bros. offers high-volume time-definite service throughout the eastern two-thirds of the United States.

According to project manager James Morris, Boyd Bros. began searching for a new onboard technology and communications platform in anticipation of changing needs, including mandates likely to be imposed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration in the future. “We looked at demos and considered providers, and we decided on PeopleNet for its future capabilities, for what it does right now and for its overall value,” Morris says. Deployment of PeopleNet in the Boyd Bros. fleet is under way, he says.

“We’re very excited about our partnership with Boyd Brothers and are looking forward to driving bottom-line efficiencies by providing a more robust set of fleet management data and services for their drivers,” says Mark Kessler, vice president of national accounts for Minneapolis-based PeopleNet. “With the addition of Boyd Brothers, more than 30 of the top 100 fleets now use PeopleNet. This rapid penetration of the premier fleets in the United States is a testament to PeopleNet’s cutting-edge technology, solutions-driven approach to the industry, and our world-class customer care.”

Boyd Bros. is among the top 15 commercial flatbed carriers in the United States and Canada. “We look forward to working with PeopleNet to develop applications that address this constantly changing transportation and logistics environment,” says Chris Cooper, the carrier’s chief operating officer.
