Qualcomm introduces Fuel Manager

Qualcomm Incorporated on Monday, Oct. 6, announced a new Fuel Manager module, which is part of its Performance Monitoring service for the OmniVision Transportation suite of services. According to the company, the Web-based Fuel Manager features a dashboard-style presentation with advanced querying tools to aid transportation companies in reducing fuel consumption by tracking and managing vehicle and driver behaviors that cause unnecessary fuel usage, such as speeding, idling and over-revving.

In a demonstration of Fuel Manager given to attendees at the American Trucking Associations Management Conference & Exhibition in New Orleans, the application quickly enabled a user to compare the actual value for each driver behavior that impacts fuel usage to a target value. Customers also can build user-defined screens to analyze the fuel economy of different vehicles, engines and other types of groups or baselines, Qualcomm says.

“The leading causes of concern in the transportation industry are fuel consumption and cost,” says Norm Ellis, vice president of transportation and logistics sales and services for Qualcomm Enterprise Services. “Fuel Manager enables our customers to better control their fuel consumption by actively managing the driver behaviors that directly affect their fuel expenditures.”

Fuel Manager is offered at no extra cost for customers that choose Qualcomm’s Unlimited Value Plan, a flat monthly rate for a bundled number of OmniVision services, Ellis says. More than 600 Qualcomm customers currently are using Fuel Manager, which was made available to customers starting in September, he says.
