The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Adminstration has issued a reminder to truckers that if they access a secure area of a port or vessel as part of their job, they must have a Transportation Worker Identification Credential card. Individuals who meet TWIC eligibility requirements will be issued a tamper-resistant credential containing the worker’s biometric (fingerprint template), allowing for a positive link between the card and the individual.

New England’s port compliance deadline for commercial truck drivers to have a TWIC card is Wednesday, Oct. 15. All mandatory compliance dates can be found here. All personnel, including truck drivers, will be required to possess a TWIC by the compliance date set for their specific Captain of the Port (COTP) zone. The Coast Guard is establishing temporary security zones of 200 yards around all tank vessels greater than 20,000 deadweight tons.
