C.H. Robinson announced Tuesday, Oct. 21, that it earned $93.6 million in the third quarter of 2008 compared with $83.7 million in the same quarter a year earlier. Revenue increased to $2.32 billion from $1.87 billion.

Gross profit from the Eden Prairie, Minn.-based company’s transportation segment grew 12.2 percent to $310.4 million. Truckload business saw higher volumes but lower gross profit margins because of higher fuel prices, C.H. Robinson said. Less-than-truckload shipments rose 18 percent, and gross margins held steady from the previous year.
