Americans drove 11 billion fewer miles in September

Americans drove almost 11 billion fewer miles in September than in the same month last year for the 11th straight drop, the U.S. Department of Transportation reported. For the fiscal year ended in September, revenues for the highway trust fund declined by $3 billion.

“We need a new approach that complements, instead of contradicts, our energy policies and infrastructure needs,” says Transportation Secretary Mary Peters.
