Southeastern Freight Lines announced Tuesday, Nov. 25, that it now is providing all customers with the same “real time” shipping status reports typically available only to high-volume customers via electronic data interchange (EDI). Customers sign up to receive these reports through Southeastern’s secure “My SEFL” website.
The shipping status reporting enhancements include e-mail notification and an option for text message notification to PDAs or mobile phones. Customers can select all shipments from their My SEFL account or just specified shipments for status updates. Southeastern says the updates are an option for customers who need to track a key shipment, or for mobile workers to track shipments while they are out of the office.
In addition, Southeastern says it has added the capability for customers to modify shipping information through its online Bill of Lading system, which enables customers to modify previously entered BOLs online through My SEFL. Southeastern says these existing documents can be modified as many times as necessary up to the time the shipment is actually tendered to the less-than-truckload company, which gives customers the flexibility to correct a mistake, add additional freight to an existing BOL, change the shipment date, hold a shipment or make other modifications. Customers also can enter BOLs with advanced dates so they can work on tomorrow’s shipments today.
“In today’s world of short-order manufacturing, quick response and just-in-time inventory systems, moving freight is simply not enough,” says Braxton Vick, senior vice president of corporate planning at Lexington, S.C.-based Southeastern Freight Lines. “Providing customers with the information they need to efficiently operate their business is just as important as moving the freight. We are committed to continuously optimizing our company and technology to better serve our customers – providing them with the information they need, when they need it.”
