Tracer Products says that after laboratory testing, its Tracerline concentrated universal/POE fluorescent leak detection dye has been determined to be safe to use in all hybrid vehicle air conditioning systems.
Hybrids typically are equipped with a hermetic electric compressor, and the electric motor inside these compressors is exposed to liquid refrigerant and lubricant. According to Tracer, it is critical that no materials be added to these systems that may cause the motor windings to deteriorate or be damaged.
The Westbury, N.Y.-based company says its POE-based dye has no negative effects on the system’s insulation properties, individual components or overall performance.
