Con-way Freight was honored at the recent Wisconsin Motor Carriers Association Annual Meeting with a safety award. The less-than-truckload carrier and subsidiary of Con-way Inc. was recognized for its safety record and practices by the WMCA with a 2007 Fleet Safety Award in the Division IV, Over Five Million Miles category. Con-way also received this award in 2007.

The annual awards were presented at the Chairman’s Banquet in October at the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells, Wis. “We are happy for the opportunity to once again recognize Con-way Freight for its continuing commitment to safety,” says Tom Howells, WMCA president. “Winning this award two years in a row is a testament to the safe driving skills practiced by Con-way’s professional drivers.”

Winners are selected based on factors including miles driven, types of driving, number of accidents and other safety indicators. The awards are sponsored by the Great West Casualty Co., one of the largest insurers of trucking companies in the United States. Company representative Pat Kuehl was on hand to present the plaques.

“We at Con-way Freight are honored to have received this award for the second year in a row,” says John G. Labrie, president of Ann Arbor, Mich.-based Con-way Freight. “Safety is one of our core values, and the safe driving of our professional driver sales representatives is something we take great pride in.”

The Wisconsin Motor Carriers Association is a nonprofit trade association focusing on interests and issues in the trucking industry within the state of Wisconsin. It has more than 1,150 members.
