Caterpillar Inc. announced Tuesday, March 17, that it will lay off 2,365 management and production workers at five U.S. plants as demand remains weak for engines and construction equipment. These job losses are on top of 22,000 job reductions previously announced in January and February.

The company says it is closing a fuel facility in Jefferson, Ga., that will result in 89 job losses. The other reductions are taking place at plants in Georgia, Illinois and Indiana, including 245 management positions that were announced previously, spokesman Jim Dugan said.

More than 2,100 factory employees are losing their positions at plants, including an Indiana engine facility and a Georgia plant that makes generators and engines.
