Xtra Lease, a provider of trailer rentals and leases in the United States and Canada, announced it has ordered new equipment for production and available for lease in 2009. The trailers feature some new heavy-duty specifications for added durability.

The company ordered 2,000 air-ride composite DuraPlate dry vans. The first 1,000 trailers will be available in April, with production scheduled through August. Production plans for the remaining 1,000 trailers will be announced at a later date.

Xtra Lease says the new trailers feature significant specification highlights, including composite vans offering maximum interior cubic capacity and damage resistance; aluminum roofs; air-ride suspensions with anti-dock walk device and air-assisted slider pin assembly on the units; and crossmember spacing on 10-inch centers throughout for increased floor rating capacity.

“We’re please to be able to offer new equipment for lease, especially as fleets struggle to get financing for new equipment purchases,” says Bill Franz, president and chief executive officer of St. Louis-based Xtra Lease. “During this turbulent economy when capital is tight, it’s important fleets understand they have options for getting new trailers. New leased equipment gives them added flexibility.”
