Truck-Lite announced Wednesday, March 18, at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky., that its new 7-inch round LED headlamps, now available in 12-volt, will be marketed for heavy-duty and medium-duty commercial trucks.

Since the headlamp’s release in 2007, the U.S. military has acquired more than 100,000 Truck-Lite 24-volt 7-inch round LED headlamps for use on wheeled and tracked vehicles in Iraq and Afghanistan, where they received excellent reviews, company officials said.

The headlamp application means brighter, crisper and whiter light output than incandescent alternatives, while offering longer life and greater dependability, company officials said.

The 7-inch round LED headlamps cost $350 each, but offer as much as 50 times longer life than comparable incandescent lamps, company officials said. The headlamps feature solid-state circuit board assemblies for unrivaled shock and vibration resistance and hard-coated polycarbonate lenses that offer 30 times more impact strength than glass, Truck-Lite officials said.

Other attributes, cited by Brad Van Riper, senior vice president and chief technology officer, are:

Output levels never seen before with LED technology;

Precision optics;
