As National Truck Driver Appreciation Week approaches Nov. 1-7, the Truckload Carriers Association has thought of a way to recognize and thank truck drivers for their steady commitment to delivering North America’s goods. Along with promotional partners Randall-Reilly Publishing, Flying J and Pilot Travel Centers, TCA will offer CDL holders special weeklong coupon offers.

TCA President Chris Burruss and Chairman Kevin Burch announced the new idea during TCA’s Independent Contractor Division Annual Meeting, held Aug. 20-21 in conjunction with the Great American Trucking Show at the Dallas Convention Center in Dallas. “Our concept is to offer nationwide coupons that will last throughout the entire week,” Burch says. “Nothing to this scale has ever been done for Driver Appreciation Week before.”

Two travel plazas already have made commitments to the project. Flying J will provide double points on fuel purchases and triple points on meal purchases throughout the week (points will be added when drivers swipe their Flying J Frequent Fueler membership cards with each purchase). Pilot will be offering a free upsize on any combo.

It is hoped that other travel plazas will join the effort as NTDAW approaches. “In this economy, drivers will appreciate the extra savings, just as we appreciate them for their hard work all year long,” Burruss says.

Copies of the special weeklong coupons will be available on TCA’s website, www.truckload.org, as well as in the October issues of CCJ, Truckers News, Overdrive and three driver recruitment digests: Owner Operator, Big Rig Owner and Driving Force.

TCA also will get the word out to drivers by asking its member carriers to put special banner ads on their websites and to run promotional articles in their newsletters. To contribute an offer for the promotion, contact Deborah Sparks, TCA’s vice president of development, at 703-838-1950 or [email protected].
