Freight Transportation Services Index fell 1.2 percent in October from its September level, declining for the second consecutive month, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics reported. The Freight TSI declined in 11 of the past 15 months and in six of 10 months in 2009 despite the three consecutive monthly increases that began in June.


YRC Worldwide Inc.’s YRC Logistics segment sold its U.S. dedicated contract carriage business to Greatwide Logistics Services.


Roadrunner Transportation Services Inc. acquired Bullet Freight Systems Inc., a transportation and logistics company headquartered in Anaheim, Calif.


Con-way Truckload expanded its regional service with increased operations in 10 U.S. states due to customer demand. Con-way Truckload Regional covers short-haul truckload shipments of less than 600 miles, including cartage service for truckload shipments of less than 100 miles. The company plans to add drayage service.


Schneider National’s Intermodal division completed a three-year conversion project, replacing its mixed trailer/container fleet with an all-container fleet. The Green Bay, Wis.-based company says the investment highlights its commitment to intermodal transportation and its environmental benefits.


Cummins Inc. announced that Engine Business President Jim Kelly will leave his current role in March in order to lead a number of key cross-business strategic projects for the Columbus, Ind.-based company. Kelly will be succeeded by Rich Freeland, currently President – Components Business.
