Intelek Technologies Corp., developers of Web-based EDI and load gathering solutions for the trucking industry, announced that Old Dominion Freight Line has adopted its StripMiner EDI Screen Scraper Software. The Thomasville, N.C.-based less-than-truckload motor carrier now is using StripMiner integrated with its enterprise transportation management and internal Electronic Data Interchange platform to automate its transactions with shipper websites and save time and lower costs.

“EDI is a critical part of our data exchange offerings,” says Thomas Hall, integration architect on the e-commerce team at Old Dominion. “While our larger customers typically have their own EDI infrastructure, StripMiner makes it possible for us to work with smaller customers to manage EDI interactions much more effectively. It’s a very good fit for us because it saves time and money, and lets us make EDI capability available to any customer easily, accurately and effectively.”

StripMiner EDI Screen Scraper Software is a Web-based load gathering software product designed to automate freight carrier load gathering from shipper and logistic company websites using predefined processing rules to automatically accept loads or generate transactions.

“Our internal EDI platform is a mix of commercially available software and applications developed in-house by our OD•Technology business unit,” Hall says. “Integrated with our legacy system, it supports many different types of EDI translation sets for over 1,500 shippers and trading partners. StripMiner makes sense because it quickly and accurately matches the guidelines for interacting with LTL shipper websites, and gives us control over how we can fine-tune those interactions for specific customers.”

Implemented in July 2009, StripMiner is already generating savings for Old Dominion, the company says. In its LTL operation, it saves 20 hours per week by eliminating data retrieval and entry needs. For each new customer that requires EDI capability, it can save as many as 40 hours of time spent previously programming an interaction with a customer’s web content. In addition, the improved accuracy of information is leading to an increase in productivity and efficiency.

“StripMiner has meant an immediate reduction in the amount of time our staff spent monitoring customer websites,” Hall says. “That gives them the ability to focus on real issues and handle much more business as opposed to being bogged down with manual entry of information. The labor savings we’ve already realized in our LTL operation may also be extended to other Old Dominion business units.”

“Our StripMiner EDI Screen Scraper software is a highly effective solution that Old Dominion has effectively interfaced with its internal EDI solutions,” says Gary Hopkins, president of Intelek, based in Norman, Okla. “This unique application of StripMiner will not only lower costs and improve productivity for Old Dominion, it will also enhance their ability to work with and satisfy the needs of smaller customers. We are very pleased to count Old Dominion Freight Line as a customer.”
