SmokeThe California Air Resources Board fined a Fontana-based waste hauler $307,200 for emissions violations during 2005 and 2006. CARB also fined a Newman-based heavy-duty diesel fleet $37,000 for failing to inspect its diesel trucks for compliance with the state’s smoke emissions standards.

CARB says an investigation showed Burrtec Waste Industries Inc. failed to inspect its diesel vehicles properly, and that the company also failed to comply with the solid waste collection vehicle rule by neglecting to retrofit some of its diesel vehicles with the required emissions-reduction devices.

CARB says investigators found that Mello Milk Transport failed to conduct diesel truck smoke tests in 2008 and 2009 at its heavy-duty diesel fleet facility as required by state law.
