The U.S. Department of Transportation announced that its Research and Innovative Technology Administration’s University Transportation Centers Program is leading the development of a National Transportation Workforce Development Strategy to prepare for a well-trained, diverse, collaborative, multidisciplinary and highly skilled work force for the future.

The UTC program is developing the strategy in collaboration with the Federal Highway Administration, Federal Transit Administration, Federal Railroad Administration and Maritime Administration, as well as with the Council of University Transportation Centers and other key stakeholders. Regional summits sponsored by various universities are convening stakeholders to review and discuss regional, state and local transportation workforce development needs, opportunities and best practices. The conclusions and recommendations of these summits will become valuable input for a national transportation work force development strategy that will focus on not only the work force of today but also encouraging the work force of tomorrow.

Upcoming summits are scheduled for April 21-22 at Pennsylvania State University, April 27-28 at Iowa State University, April 29-30 at the University of Denver, and May 11 at the University of Tennessee. Additional information about the summits can be found at http://cutc.tamu.edu/workforce.html.
