A joint application for statewide Proposition 1B grants to reduce air pollution from goods transport is being submitted by the Port of Long Beach, the Port of Los Angeles and the South Coast Air Quality Management District. The ports and the AQMD will apply for funds available to the local goods transportation corridor.
The funds, provided by the statewide Proposition 1B approved by voters in 2006, are administered by the California Air Resources Board. On Thursday, May 6, a meeting hosted by the ports and SCAQMD was held at the Port of Long Beach to allow the public to comment on the plan to apply for the funds. The state said it has sold bonds to make $200 million funding statewide available for this round of grants. Of that, 55 percent or $110 million has been designated for the Los Angeles region, which includes Long Beach.
