Navistar, Inc. announced Thursday, May 20, that it has received an order from Boyd Bros. Transportation Inc. for 325 International ProStar + tractors equipped with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency 2010-compliant Advanced EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) MaxxForce 13 engines. Headquartered in Clayton, Ala., Boyd Bros. is a flatbed carrier with more than 1,000 trucks in its fleet, specializing in the time-sensitive transportation of steel products and building materials.

“We’re proud to win new business from Boyd Bros., and we look forward to delivering the ProStar+ to their fleet,” says Jim Hebe, senior vice president of North American sales operations for Navistar, based in Warrenville, Ill. “Boyd Bros. prides itself on driver satisfaction, and the ProStar+ delivers a winning combination of driver-inspired comfort features and outstanding fuel economy.”

Boyd Bros. currently operates more than 60 International ProStar trucks with EPA 2007 MaxxForce 13 engines and has logged nearly 8 million miles on these trucks. “We’ve had great results with the existing ProStar tractors in our fleet and look forward to even more success with the ProStar+,” says Chris Cooper, chief operating officer of Boyd Bros. “From the significant fuel economy advantages we’ve realized, to the appreciation our drivers have for the quiet, comfortable ride, we’re excited to reward our drivers with the ProStar+.”

Further demonstrating its commitment to its drivers, all of the ProStar+ trucks delivered to Boyd Bros. will be equipped with Navistar’s factory-installed MaxxPower battery-powered HVAC system (heating, ventilation and air conditioning). The MaxxPower HVAC system is a highly efficient anti-idle solution that provides heating and cooling in the sleeper compartment in accordance with Truck Maintenance Council (TMC) requirements.

“Boyd Bros. has always listened to our drivers, and we strive to make improvements that will have a positive impact on their lives,” Cooper says. “As we take delivery of the new ProStar+ over the next several years, we’ll be providing our drivers with the most fuel-efficient and driver-friendly trucks on the road today.”
