Pressure Systems International, manufacturer of the Meritor Tire Inflation System by PSI with ThermAlert technology, presented Wabash National Corp. with its 2009 Athena Award during the Truck Trailer Manufacturers Association meeting held in Orlando, Fla. Dick Giromini, Wabash president and chief executive officer, and Steve Miller, the company’s vice president of supply chain management, accepted the award.

The Athena award is given by PSI each year to the company who does the most to promote the use of the ThermAlert technology. ThermAlert, when included with MTIS, warns vehicle operators of excessive heat buildup in the wheel end before it results in wheel loss, wheel-end failures and possibly dangerous and costly trailer fires. MTIS by PSI is Wabash National’s preferred automatic tire inflation system; the ThermAlert technology increasingly has been included in the specifications, offering Wabash customers an additional safety feature.

During the award presentation, Tim Musgrave, PSI president and CEO, thanked Wabash for championing the ThermAlert technology. “ThermAlert was developed to address the safety concern of possible wheel-off situations due to excessive heat buildup in the wheel end, and we’re very appreciative that Wabash recognizes the benefits for their customers,” Musgrave says. “Having a trailer manufacturer with Wabash’s reputation support this technology reinforces our belief in the advantages of this technology.”

Also in attendance at the award presentation were Steve Robinson, director of OEM sales and dealer programs for PSI; Walt Sherbourne, national sales manager of North America trailer products for ArvinMeritor; and Craig Frohock, general manager of North America trailer systems for ArvinMeritor.
