Odyssey Software, a provider of enterprise-class mobile device management (MDM) products, announced it is shipping Athena v4.0, the latest version of its flagship product. Athena v4.0 is designed to provide mobile device management to a number of popular devices, including the Apple iPhone, Android, Palm Pre, Nokia E and N series and Microsoft Windows Mobile and Windows Embedded CE device platforms.

Mark Gentile, chief executive officer of Odyssey Software, says that with the proliferation of mobile workers using a wide variety of devices, it is critical for enterprises to utilize the latest management offerings to ensure an efficient, secure and productive work force. “With the latest release of Athena, we are providing our customers the breadth of support needed to reliably and cost-effectively manage mobile and embedded devices across an enterprise-diverse platform population of both personal and corporate-issued devices,” Gentile says.

Odyssey says Athena, which is designed to directly integrate into the native infrastructure of industry-standard management consoles and does not require additional server-side components or consoles, is architected specifically to be flexible, modular and seamless to integrate, offering live remote control of devices in the field, comprehensive software and hardware asset information, location-based data support via GPS, device software, application and patch provisioning and installation, and security, including device lock and wipe.

Odyssey says that by enabling enterprises to integrate mobile device management through a single console, Athena v4.0 complements and extends capabilities to existing enterprise management platforms such as Microsoft AE System Center Configuration Manager 2007 and the upcoming Configuration Manager vNext platform, leveraging the platforms’ inherent scalability, reliability and security.
